The completion of the Rehabilitation Unit at the Gold Coast Hospital and of major alterations and refurbishment within its main building continued Sommer & Staff's record of value adding to health care facility construction processes. During its first major hospital project (Princess Alexandra Hospital's Acute Block refurbishment and fitout in 1975) Sommer & Staff assisted in the development of a revolutionary light-weight, impact resistant, dry-wall system which is now an industry standard.
That project involved the Intensive Care Unit, Operating Theatres, CSSD and their support facilities while keeping the building operational and open to the public.
During three decades of creating new health care facilities and of rejuvenating others, the firm has established an enviable reputation for expertise, competence, and capability. It has become one of the states most sought after contractors for dealing with complex health care projects.
Multi-million dollar healthcare projects for both the public and private sectors followed in Brisbane, Redlands, Gold Coast, Maryborough, Gympie, RAAF Amberley as well as in Mt. Isa, Townsville and in quite remote Mornington Island. The firm has also built substantial facilities in Tully, Monto, Kingaroy, Roma, Wynnum and Herston. |
