Sommer & Staff set its high benchmark in construction of industrial buildings in 1974 with its first major project, the Cannon Hill Abattoir. The competence and capability demonstrated in this venture led to further projects. It brought the firm such substantial clients as BHP-Billiton, Pacific Power, Bunnings and Volvo.
Sommer & Staff's skill and management ability in providing administration and processing facilities for its clients together with its ability to work successfully within the severe constrictions of a functioning facility such as a hospital or hotel is well known.
The types of projects undertaken are many and varied, including a commissioning shed and under-floor wheel lathe at Jilalan for Queensland Rail, the sophisticated showroom and servicing facilities of Eagers Mazda at Newstead, the enormous distribution facility for Bunnings at Hemmant, and the administration and servicing facilities at Tarong Power Station. Specialised projects include the Contained Examination Facility for the Port of Brisbane Authority the award winning purpose-built warehouse for Protran at Murarrie and the Construction Training Centre training facility at Salisbury, the contract for which included provision of administration and education facilities as well as gutting and refurbishing an abandoned factory complex with about a hectare of floor space. |
